How Air-Beam RTT
Construction Works
For distributors who need to explain the product to their buyers — and for B2B buyers doing technical due diligence.
Mount on crossbars as normal
Same crossbar mounting as hard shell RTTs — compatible with standard T-slot and flush rail systems.
Same fitment process as hard shellUnroll and connect pump
The folded tent unrolls from its packed state. Connect the included pump to the inflation valve.
Pump typically includedInflate air poles
PVC Ø10 cm air poles inflate to raise the cabin structure. Process takes 3–8 minutes depending on pump capacity.
3–8 min setup (vs <2 min hard shell)Extend ladder and enter
Cabin is fully raised, ladder extended. Sleeping platform ready — built-in mattress on soft-base models.
PVC Air-Beam Poles — Ø10 cm, 0.5mm
High-pressure PVC inflatable poles replace the rigid shell or traditional tent poles. Structural integrity when inflated, compact when deflated. 10 cm diameter, 0.5mm wall thickness on hard-base model.
Hard-Base: Anti-Oxidation Aluminum Plate
The rigid base platform that makes the hard-base model feel like a traditional RTT from the sleeping surface perspective. Anti-oxidation treatment for outdoor durability.
Soft-Base: 15 cm TPU Mattress Floor
A built-in 15 cm thick TPU foam mattress serves as the sleeping floor in soft-base models. Eliminates the need for a separate sleeping pad — the mattress is integral to the tent structure.
Hard-Base: 680gsm PVC Outer Cover
Heavy-duty 680gsm PVC cover protects the inflatable cabin when the tent is closed and covers it while driving. Significantly heavier than typical RTT covers — contributes to the hard-base's higher total weight.
Cabin Fabric — 200–300gsm Poly-cotton
Hard-base: 300gsm ripstop poly-cotton, PU1500mm. Soft-base: 200g waterproof polyester cotton. Lower WP rating than hard shell RTTs — communicate this clearly to buyers comparing spec sheets directly.
Inflatable RTT vs
Hard Shell RTT
Use this table to help buyers and your team understand when to recommend inflatable vs hard shell.
| Attribute | Inflatable RTT | Hard Shell RTT | When it Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Structure | PVC air-beam poles | Rigid shell (Al/ABS/FG) | Determines pack profile and deployment |
| Setup time | 3–8 min (inflation) | <2 min (gas strut) | Hard shell wins on speed — important if buyers value quick setup |
| Packed height | 95×50×45 cm (soft-base) | 18–32 cm on roof | Inflatable soft-base packs lower off the vehicle for storage |
| Driving profile | Taller when closed | Slim and aerodynamic | Hard shell gives better aerodynamics and ground clearance |
| Waterproof rating | PU1500mm | PU2000–4000mm | Hard shell wins — communicate WP difference clearly to buyers |
| Visual profile | Rounded, distinctive, modern | Familiar overlanding look | Inflatable stands out on the roof — marketing story is easier |
| Weight | Soft-base: 35–38 kg | Aluminum: 35–65 kg | Comparable — soft-base is lighter; hard-base (65 kg) is heavier |
| Buyer familiarity | Growing — education needed | High — dominant format | Hard shell is easier to sell; inflatable needs explanation |
| Price positioning | Premium to mid-premium | Entry to premium (by shell) | Inflatable justifies premium due to novelty |
| OEM available | Yes | Yes | Both available for custom branding |
| Start recommendation | 2nd SKU after hard shell | Best first RTT SKU | New distributors: start hard shell, add inflatable as differentiation |

💨Construction & Technology
What is an inflatable rooftop tent?
What is the difference between hard-base and soft-base inflatable RTTs?
Soft-base inflatable RTT: No rigid base — a built-in 15 cm TPU mattress forms the sleeping floor. The entire structure deflates for packing. Compact packed size (95×50×45 cm), lighter at 35 kg net. Available in 160 cm and 210 cm width variants.
